Tier 1 is a screening examination. All eligible candidates appear for Tier 1. Based on performance, candidates are shortlisted (typically 15โ25 times the number of vacancies) for Tier 2. Tier 1 marks are NOT counted in final merit for most posts but are used as a tiebreaker.
Tier 2 is the main selection examination. Paper 1 is mandatory for all. Paper 2 (Statistics) is only for JSO and Statistical Investigator posts. Paper 3 (General Studies: Finance & Economics) is only for AAO posts.
Candidates provisionally selected based on merit are called for Document Verification (DV). Candidates must produce original documents along with self-attested copies.
Certain posts (especially those involving field duties like Inspector CGST/IT, SI CBI) require a medical fitness examination. Candidates must meet prescribed medical standards. Unfit candidates are disqualified for that post but may be considered for other posts they are eligible for.
The final merit list is prepared based on Tier 2 marks (and Tier 1 as tiebreaker). Candidates fill post preferences at the time of application. Allocation is done on merit-cum-preference basis. Joining formalities are conducted at the allotted office.
